Ten best... eye products
This Ten Best has been a hotly debated topic. The same timeless cult classics, such as YSL Touche Éclat, make the top tens every year (for a very good reason!) so we've decided to make room for fresh contenders and included some new, hip, must have products. Enjoy.
- Crystal Taupe Eyeshine, Ariane Poole, £14.50
www.arianepoole.com
Ariane Poole is a renowned make-up artist and her own range is adored by Tess Daly, Sharon Osbourne and Denise Van Outen. The Crystal Taupe Eyeshine is a cream to powder shadow that can be used an eyebase or on its own. It's perfect for a natural day-look and you can use the handy applicator or blend with your fingers.
- GOSH Tweezers, £4.99 Superdrug
The key to good eye make-up is to begin with well groomed brows. Tweezers are essential for this and this pair from GOSH are just the job.
- Barry M, Dazzle Dust, £4.50
www.barrym.com
Dazzle Dust from Barry M is a loose, highly pigmented powder, available in 60 shades. With bright iridescent colours to choose from, the adventurous can make like Lady GaGa or you can go for a more classic smoky eye look. Metallics are hot this season and we love the new metallic-inspired Dark Chocolate.
- Frontcover Perfect Nude, £15, exclusively at Boots
This sell-out make-up range takes catwalk trends and turns them into wearable collections. It is so popular actress Neve Campbell started a campaign to get it stocked all year round. We love the Perfect Nude Collection. The on-trend colours include 8 eyeshadows and 8 lip shades. It has all the makings of a classic product.
- Naturally Ageless Line Smoothing Eye Creme, Burt's Bees £28.99
Pomegranates are a weird fruit – you either love ‘em or hate ‘em. This eye cream is apparently packed with pomegranate extract and para cress?!? We're not sure what that is but we love the cream. It feels light on your eyes and helps to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Burt's Bees don't test any of the products on animals. We like.
- Lacura Concealer Pen, Aldi, £3.59
This budget buy from Aldi has got the beauty world buzzing. The Lacura concealer pen costs a credit-crunching £3.59 and is a fraction of the price of its more upmarket competitors. Slightly runnier that the un-rivalled Queen of Concealers YSL Touche Éclat, the Lacura is a great budget buy for light day coverage.
- Kind to Eyes Nourishing Make-up Remover Cream, Simple, £3.49
Removing make-up with a gentle product that doesn't damage the sensitive skin around the eyes is key. This gentle make-up remover from Simple does exactly that. No fuss, no frills, it's a straightforward beauty staple that comes at a reasonable price.
- Vaseline, £1.15
Listen up ladies, Vaseline is a make-up bag must have! If you only have five minutes to get ready a quick slick of Vaseline over your lids works wonders as a shiny base, it can also be used as an eye primer before applying shadow. A quick slick can keep unruly brows in place or use with a clean brush as a mascara replacement. Vaseline Rocks!
- Technakhol Liner, Mac Cosmetics, £12.50
www.maccosmetics.co.uk
MAC products are a staple for clued up make-up artists. This is a creamy eyeliner that has an intense, rich, colour. It's perfect for framing the eyes to create a dramatic finish. Use the mechanical pencil at a 90 degree angle for a thin precision line. For thicker application, apply at a flat angle. Choose black if you are going for a classic smoky eye look or the Brownborder if you are blending with on-trend brown metallics.
- Great Lash Mascara, Maybelline New York, £4.88
I know we said no cult eye products in this list, but every great eye ‘look' needs lashings of mascara. This mascara knocks the socks of its designer rivals – and it's a fraction of the price.
